Claire Thornton

APC SpLD (PATOSS), ATS (BDA), PG Dip, PGCE (FE), BA (Hons)

I am a specialist dyslexia teacher and assessor holding a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC). I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching and Assessment of Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), together with qualifications in education and specialist dyslexia assessment. I am also an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and am based in the SE22 area of South East London.

I have more than 20 years' experience supporting individuals with dyslexia and related specific learning differences, and I have been providing assessment services through Dulwich Dyslexia for over 17 years. During that time, I have assessed many children, young people, and adults for a wide range of educational, professional, and workplace purposes.

In addition to conducting private assessments for individuals, I provide assessment services for a number of schools, colleges, and universities.

I genuinely enjoy working with people and understand that many individuals feel nervous before an assessment. My aim is to make the process as relaxed, supportive, and positive as possible, whilst providing a thorough and professional assessment that helps individuals better understand their strengths and areas of difficulty.

Dyslexia Assessments in West Sussex and the South Downs

In addition to working throughout South East London, I regularly travel to West Sussex (where I have family and where I grew up) to conduct dyslexia assessments for children, students, and adults.

Many families prefer to access specialist assessment services closer to home, particularly where local provision is limited or waiting times are long. Subject to availability, I am happy to arrange appointments in West Sussex and the surrounding areas.

  • South Harting and the Hartings

A full diagnostic dyslexia assessment can help identify an individual's strengths and areas of difficulty, provide a formal diagnosis where appropriate, and form the basis for tailored recommendations and support.

Assessments are available for:

  • Primary school-aged children
  • Secondary school pupils preparing for GCSEs and A-levels
  • University and college students
  • Adults seeking workplace support or a better understanding of their learning profile

If you are based in West Sussex or nearby and would like to discuss an assessment, please feel free to get in touch. I would be happy to discuss your requirements and advise on the most appropriate type of assessment.
